Description

Low Density Cork Carving Blocks are large-format baked cork carving blocks made from granulated natural cork heated at high temperature and pressure, causing the cork granules to expand and release suberin — a natural resin that binds the granules together without any synthetic binders. This baking process produces a lightweight, durable block with a deep, earthy brown color and a larger grain structure that carves effortlessly with smooth shaping and easy tool handling. The larger granule composition makes these blocks well suited to furniture components, decoy carving, general craft carving, and any application where natural texture and buoyancy matter more than ultra-fine detail. Note that low density blocks will not offer the same level of carving precision as high density cork blocks due to the larger granule size. These blocks accept wood paints and stains directly and are naturally buoyant, making carved hunting decoys durable and effective in the field. Each block measures approximately 39in × 19.7in × 4in (1000mm × 500mm × 100mm) with a density of 139 to 160 kg/m³ (8.7 to 10 lbs per cubic foot). Blocks can be bonded together using water-based contact cement to achieve greater thickness. Perfect for duck and hunting decoy carving, fishing lure making, furniture components, shoe platforms, architectural modeling, theatrical props, sculpture, and any hobby or professional carving application requiring a large-format, naturally textured cork carving block.

Why Choose Low Density Cork Carving Blocks?

  • Baked cork construction using only natural suberin resin as a binder produces a lightweight, durable block with no synthetic additives and a distinctive deep earthy brown color
  • Larger grain structure carves effortlessly with smooth shaping and easy tool handling, making these blocks ideal for furniture, decoys, and general carving where natural texture is desirable
  • Naturally buoyant construction makes carved hunting decoys effective in the field, standing up to weather and outdoor conditions
  • Accepts wood paints and stains directly for clean, consistent colour application across decoy finishing and decorative carving projects
  • Large 39in × 19.7in × 4in format provides generous material for full-size furniture components, large decoys, and sculptural or prop work
  • Blocks can be bonded together with water-based contact cement to achieve any desired thickness, giving carvers complete flexibility for oversized projects

Low density cork carving blocks outperform foam and synthetic carving materials for texture-forward applications by combining natural buoyancy and effortless workability with a large-format baked cork construction that delivers genuine natural grain character at a lower density than precision carving grades.
