Low Density Cork Carving Block - 39in x 19.7in x 4in thick

Low density, dark cork blocks are larger grain cork carving blocks made from baked cork. Baked cork (expanded cork) is made from granulated natural cork that’s heated at very high temperatures and pressure. The heat causes the cork granules to expand and release suberin, a natural resin that binds the granules together. This process produces a light weight, durable material with a deep, earthy brown color.

Designed for smooth shaping and easy tool handling, low-density blocks carve effortlessly. Their larger grain structure is ideal for furniture, decoys and general carving work where natural texture (and buoyancy for decoys) matter more than ultra-fine detail. They will not offer the same level of precision as high density cork blocks due to their larger granule size.

These blocks are often used for carving cork decoys. Cork have been proven to be one of the most effective waterfowl decoy materials available, suitable to both amateur and professional carvers.
